Day
15 Padrón - Santiago
Thursday 09/08/2018
20 km + 300 m height difference = 23 km effort 6 hrs + 1 1/2 hrs pauses
WE MADE IT! At 3.30 pm!
The rain came down in buckets last night and continued well during the night! So this morning it was very cold and and we all wore long sleeves. The sky was grey and misty. We advanced speedily in these perfect walking conditions. There were considerable ups and downs, the usual mix of road and path, forest and fields. Also the usual grouping and regrouping of our lot. The sun came out but never became really hot. As we were entering the outskirts of the city the chemist was indicating 22 degrees.
At one point we overtook two women whom I had noticed before from afar. One of them was carrying two identical packs, one in front and the other one on the back. The other woman was not carrying anything. And this time I saw that she was advancing very laboriously using two trekking poles. Where they had started I do not know. But even walking to the centre from where we met, for them was extremely courageous!
So here we are! We made it! Had a lie-down in the middle of the Plaza do Obradoiro like so many. So many smiling happy faces all round! The beautiful weather helped of course!
Finding our hotel was not difficult: Andrea and Serge are treating us to two nights in the Parador Hostal dos Reyes Catolicos which is right next to the cathedral on the Plaza do Obradoiro. The hostal was built in 1486 by the “Catholic Monarchs” Ferdinand ll of Aragon and Isabel l of Castille as a pilgrim hostel - now a 5 star hotel. During our walk last year Andrea and I had said it would be nice to spend a night in this hotel. So we thought, why wait, and here we are! Another highlight of this adventure!
Had a light meal on a terrace on one of the squares in the old town centre, a walkabout and a look at the four courtyards of the hotel - very impressive! See photos..

NOUS SOMMES ARRIVES ! A
15h30 !
photos !
