10 km Forgot to check the time
Up latish after a very good night’s sleep! I discovered that Nicola had forgotten to bring rubber tips for her poles and I had forgotten to check this before leaving home; so we started today’s stage by walking 1 1/2 km to the nearest Decathlon to buy those tips - in vain, they were sold out. So Clara is going to bring some and I will have to put up with Nicola’s click, click, click - she does not mind hearing this noise.
Back to the cathedral to pick up the yellow arrows and off we go at last, just before midday! Happily following the arrows which should take us to the river (Douro) until at last we ask ourselves why it is taking so long to get there! And I remember that the other Camino Portugues, the interior one, also starts at the cathedral and we had picked up the wrong one. This needs a stop for a drink - coffee and fruit juice.
And off we go again, following Nicola’s GPS, and find the river. Beautiful sunshine and a cool breeze all along the river and then along the sea. Lots of people on lots of small beaches. An icecream somewhere next to the river which we take sitting on some steps in the shade watching boats, people, birds - life is good!
Eventually we made it to our hotel, not next to a beach, but at a walkable distance - quite cheap: 45 euros, breakfast included, a basic room, clean, private bathroom. In a minute we will go out for dinner....

Debout tardivement après une bonne nuit de sommeil ! Je me suis rendu compte que Nicola avait oublié les embouts caoutchouc de ses bâtons de marche ; j'avais omis de vérifier cela avant de quitter la maison. On a donc commencé la journée en marchant 1km et demi vers le Décathlon le plus proche pour faire l'achat mais il y avait rupture de stock...Clara en rapportera et on devra faire avec les clic clic de Nicola mais ce n'est pas grave.
Retour à la cathédrale pour trouver les flèches jaunes et on est
enfin parties marcher vers midi. On a suivi gaiement les flèches qui
devaient nous mener vers la rivière (Douro) jusqu'à ce que l'on se
demande pourquoi cela prenait si longtemps pour y arriver !
Alors je me suis souvenue que l’autre chemin portugais, celui de
l'intérieur, partait aussi de la cathédrale : nous avions pris
le mauvais... Donc : arrêt, café et jus de fruits.
Et nous voilà reparties suivant les indications GPS de Nicola et
avons trouvé la rivière. Beau soleil, petite brise le long de la
rivière puis de la mer. Plein de gens sur plein de petites plages.
On a pris un ice cream assises sur des marches, à l'ombre, près de
la rivière à regarder les gens, les bateaux, les oiseaux, la vie
est belle !
Finalement on a été à notre hôtel, pas près de la plage mais à
une distance raisonnable ; hôtel bon marché (45 euros) petit
déjeuner inclus, une chambre simple, une salle de bains privée. On
va bientôt sortir diner...
