Ina with family on Coastal Portugues

Here I go again, this time on the Coastal Portuguese camino which is also called the Camino Litoral. The plan was hatched when walking with my daughter Andrea last year:

Starting in Porto this camino is relatively short (260 km) and half of it goes along the beaches and the river Minho/Miño which constitutes the border between Spain and Portugal. So we thought this would be an ideal way to introduce my grandchildren to my caminos with stops for a swim in the sea or the river. Having booked private rooms in hostals or hotels we need not arrive early to make certain to have beds, but can take our time.

We are:

Ina (78),

Andrea (51),

Alison (49),

Clara (18 next month),

James (15),

Leo (13)

and Paulo(10).

Plus, during 10 days of a total of over two weeks, granddaughter Nicola (15) will be coming along – she cannot come the whole way because school starts at the beginning of August.

I, together with Nicola, will take a bus from Rennes to Porto on July 24^th arriving late in the afternoon the following day. We will start walking on the 26^th - I had intended to travel to Porto earlier, but in the end found there was no bus. The bus timetable was not available when I reserved our accommocation many months ago (this is high season!). So I cancelled all my Porto reservations but one. Until the 29^th Nicola and I will be walking alone to Povoa de Varzim - Porto airport, where the others will arrive, is well north of the town, so they will join us in Povoa by taxi.

Me voila sur le départ. Cette fois ci sur le chemin côtier portugais, un chemin que l'on appelle aussi le chemin du littoral. Le projet est né lors de mon périple avec Andréa l'an dernier (2017).

Le départ se fera de Porto. C'est un chemin relativement court (260km) dont la moitié suit les plages et la rivière Minho

qui constitue la frontière entre l'Espagne et le Portugal. On a pensé que ce serait un excellent itinéraire pour initier mes petits enfants à mes aventures sur les chemins avec des arrêts pour nager dans la rivière ou dans la mer. J’ai fait des réservations pour des chambres d'hôtel ce qui nous permet de ne pas arriver trop tôt pour être surs d'avoir un gîte où dormir et ainsi de prendre notre temps.

Avec en plus pendant 10 jours sur un total de 14 ma petite fille Nicola 15 ans qui sera avec nous en partie. Elle ne peut faire tout le parcours car son école recommence en août.

Je prendrai un bus de Rennes à Porto avec Nicola le 24 juillet avec une arrivée dans l'après midi du lendemain. On commencera à marcher le 26. Je pensais arriver à Porto plus tôt mais il n'y avais pas de bus. Les horaires n'étaient pas disponibles quand j'ai fait mes réservations il y a plusieurs mois (nécessaire car c'est la haute saison). J'ai donc annulé mes réservations à Porto sauf une.

Nicola et mois marcheront seuls jusqu’au 29 vers Povoa de Varzim, l'aéroport de Porto, où le reste de la troupe arrivera. C'est au nord de la ville et ils nous rejoindront à Povoa en taxi.
